Our story

Grá Cashmere is founded by a Mongolian native born and raised in the western province of the country. It was here, that her love for the craft of clothing began.

With Grá Cashmere, she wanted to create garments that embody her personal philosophy of clothing designed to be cherished and passed down through generations. This is what we call your "forever" wardrobe.

The founder's story

Grá Cashmere would not exist without the personal journey of our founder so we want to share her story through this short conversation with her.

Q: Can you share your personal journey and the story behind Grá Cashmere?

M: Maybe I will start from the beginning. From a young age, I was curious about creating clothes. My parents would often find me knitting with the wool yarn spun by my family, harvested from their sheep, goats, and yaks using wooden drop spindles (which you don't see much anymore). I would spend hours knitting small woollen socks and vests for children in the neighbourhood, a pastime that deepened my love for clothes and the art of making them.

In my late twenties, I decided to move to Ireland, a place where I knew no one and didn’t speak the language. While life’s demands led me in different directions, the desire to create never really left and it was during Covid that I was reunited with my love for making garments.

However, I am grateful for everything that's happened in my life as they broadened my perspective, and with age came the realisation that it was time to bring my childhood dreams into the world. That's how Grá Cashmere was born. It is a brand that is thoroughly created with love, and a bridge between my Mongolian heritage and the life I created in Ireland.

Q: What/ who was your biggest inspiration when creating Grá Cashmere?

M: I wanted to create a mindful brand that did not only create quality garments with timeless styles but also is mindful and conscious of the people we work with and the planet we live on.

Behind this philosophy lies my father's influence. I would say he was a man ahead of his time. I remember he would clear rubbish from rivers and riverbanks without anyone asking him to. He had this deep respect for nature and the land. His actions, though may seem simple, planted the seed for Grá Cashmere’s ethical mission: to honour the planet, its people, and the dreams we hold dear.

So with that in mind I would like to build Grá Cashmere on the principles of giving back to the communities who and the place that help us create. That's what I would like to work towards.

Q: Why is local craftsmanship and production so important to Grá Cashmere?

M: As a brand, I hope to show respect for the land and its resources, particularly the goats whose cashmere fibres are the foundation of the brand. Mongolia, known for producing nearly 60% of the world’s raw cashmere, processes only a small percentage of the raw cashmere locally. Grá Cashmere strives to change that by supporting local artisans and domestic craftsmanship.

We are also dedicated to mindful production, creating pieces that endure, both in quality and style. Rather than participating in the constant cycle of seasonal trends, we want to focus on crafting timeless capsule collections, with garments that remain relevant season after season. Our goal is to perfect the "forever wardrobe".

To add more to that, we are very conscious of how much we produce, how much waste we generate, and how we can continue to evolve in a fast-paced fashion world. As a young brand, we recognise that this is a continuous learning process, and we still have progress to make. However, we are fully committed to our goals and dedicated to evolving every step of the way.
